This antenatal class provides an overview of breastfeeding including:

  • Benefits of Breastfeeding – for both baby and mom.
  • How Breastfeeding Works – understanding milk production, supply and demand, and hormones involved.
  • Latching & Positioning – proper latch techniques, comfortable breastfeeding positions, and signs of a good latch.
  • Common Challenges & Solutions – engorgement, sore nipples, low supply, and how to overcome them.
  • Newborn Feeding Patterns – understanding hunger cues, frequency of feeds, and what to expect in the first few weeks.
  • Partner & Family Support – the role of partners in breastfeeding success.
  • When to Seek Help – knowing when to contact a lactation consultant or healthcare provider.

This course will be presented by Sr. Sally Moreira, a dedicated registered nurse with nearly two decades of experience in infant and pediatric care. After qualifying from the University of Johannesburg in 2006, she began her nursing career with a strong focus on neonatal and pediatric health. Since 2007, she has worked extensively with infants, gaining expertise from NICU care to general pediatric wellness.

Currently, Sr. Sally runs a well-baby clinic, where she provides well-baby checkups, vaccinations, and lactation support to parents and caregivers. Her natural ability to read nonverbal cues in both infants and adults makes her exceptionally skilled at understanding and addressing the needs of little ones and their families.

As a mother of three, she brings both professional knowledge and personal experience to her practice, offering compassionate, evidence-based care that helps parents navigate the joys and challenges of early childhood. Sr. Sally is passionate about empowering families with the knowledge and support they need to give their babies the best possible start in life.
