This is a practical and therapeutic workshop on the use of music to explore, strengthen and enjoy your bond with your baby. In the first year, parents and babies naturally interact with one another in musical exchanges of sound, movement and song. This is how feelings and experiences are shared; parent and child are both soothed through musical co-regulation. Understanding how to use the elements of music to enhance these interactions can contribute to healthy and optimal growth of your child in the early years, and a rich, satisfying relationship with them.
This two-part series will explore the following:
Part 1:
Informational and practical skills
- Why is attachment important?
- The musical elements of the parent-child relationship
- Co-regulating with your child (and how to with music)
Part 2:
Skills reinforcement and therapeutic experiential
- The impacts of parental mental health
- Integrating self-care and child-care
These workshops will also be an opportunity to connect with a supportive network of like-minded parents and engage in acts of care for yourself. You are welcome to bring your baby to part 1, but due to the therapeutic element of part 2 it is encouraged that bubs stay at home.
Duration: Each session is 2 hours long
Cost: R1600
