Dr Carmen Briner

Dr Carmen Briner is a General Practitioner passionate about children’s and women’s health. She enjoys working with her patients to create the best treatment plan. Her career, spanning both clinical practice and research, paints a picture of a passionate advocate for public health, consistently striving to make a tangible difference in the lives of others.
Dr Carmen completed her undergraduate MBBCh medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2005. After completing her community service, Dr Carmen worked for several years in Emergency Medicine in South Africa and Melbourne, Australia. Seeing patients in an emergency setting made her realise her passion for disease prevention. With this interest in health promotion, she moved into clinical research focusing on paediatric and maternal infectious diseases and completed her master’s in public health.
She fervently advocates for public health education, utilising social media to spark conversations that drive behavioural change and education. Her Instagram presence (@momdoc_sa) further amplifies her message, connecting with audiences through engaging visuals and practical tips.
Dr Carmen is highly driven by patient care and a desire for consistent learning and staying up to date on medical research and new therapies in family practice. Her patients enjoy her caring and approachable bedside manner, knowing they will always get individualised care.
